School Camps
School camps are an important and very popular aspect of school life. From Year 5 onwards, our students benefit greatly from superbly run camp programmes. In recent years, students have attended school camps at:
- Wellington
- Rakiura (Stewart Island)
- Waiora
- Naseby
- Camp Columba
- Tautuku
At the end of 2019, the Room 3 students also attended Bat Camp at Tawanui. This was organised as part of their learning about The Catlins' very own, Long Tailed Bat. They witnessed harp traps being set up to catch bats and were even lucky enough to catch one, although the students had already gone to bed!
Camps challenge a young person on so many levels with all of the activities such as abseiling, archery, kayaking, tramping, rock climbing and skiing. But also in being away from home, personal organisation, being part of a group, and stepping out of personal comfort zones. The end result is always a deepening of relationships, friendships and a strengthening of character.
