Winter Sports, Cross Country, Netball and Hockey...
Winter Sports
Finally, winter sports are underway with many TCAS students playing a variety of sports. We have senior students joining South Otago High School to play: Robbie Jackson - Hockey, Joey Jenks and Dannielle Mason - Rugby, Bronte Williams and Margret Tyrell - Football, we also have eleven girls in our TCAS Senior A team.
A large portion of our junior students playing a winter sport and are out playing netball, rugby, hockey and football in some cooler conditions. All the best for the season ahead!
Cross Country
There are a few new changes to Cross Country this year, firstly we are holding earlier than usual on Wednesday 1st July.
NEW SCHEDULE - It will be broken into two sections with Year 7-13 running first with an estimated start time of 12:30 followed by the Year 1-6 students running from 2 pm, with our senior students helping with marshalling.
NEW LOCATION - Thank you to Andy Hollander and Josh & Sarah Cairns who are allowing us to use their farmland for this year’s course which senior students have had the opportunity to train on recently. The land is opposite the Owaka Rugby grounds. Parents and spectators can park along Hugh Street and enter through the gateway on the corner of Hugh Street and Waikawa Road.
Schedule of estimated start times:
Race 1 12:30 - Year 9-13
Race 2 12:45 - Year 7-8
Year 7-13 return to school for a lunch break
Race 3 - 2 pm - Year 5-6
Race 4 - 2:05 - NE and Year 1
Race 5 -2:20 Year 2
Race 6 -2:30 Year 3-4
We hope to have the school tent set up down at the cross country and at the completion of races if your child is NOT going home on the bus please report to the tent where either Morgan Brown or Mr Samson will be stationed with the bus list.
Reminder it is winter time and the paddocks will be very muddy and they have recently had sheep grazing in so please NO RUNNING IN SCHOOL SHOES OR SCHOOL UNIFORM. Students are asked to bring either house colours OR PE uniform and they will have the opportunity to get changed prior to head to the course.
Netball
Senior Netball got underway last Saturday and Junior Netball play their first game tomorrow, 27th June. It is a short sharp season with only seven weeks, and we are grateful to the coaches and managers for the four TCAS teams this year, your time and devotion to the team and players is truly appreciated. Coaches or Managers for each team will have their own way of keeping parents updated regarding practices and game times, if not please contact Tania Barr [email protected]

Hockey
It’s that time again to sign up for Indoor Hockey played in the Cross Rec Centre in Balclutha for Term 3. It will run for 7 weeks starting 10th August
Year 1-2 students play at 4pm-4:45. $20 per player and Parents MUST stay at the centre for the duration. Sticks are supplied, parents must supply their children with mouthguard and shin pads
Year 3-4, Year 5-6 and Year 7-8 teams $20 per player and game time varies between 4pm-6pm. Players will need their own stick, mouth guard and shin pads.
Year 9-Adults Played from 6pm -8pm
Students have been asked to sign up in the students centre, and parents will receive an email informing them with more details by end of next week.
TCAS has six students; Cooper Cleland, Archie Valli, Jack Walker, Leo Burgess, Kaiyo Nakajima and Harry Walker representing South Otago Hockey in Dunedin on Friday night. This is a big commitment to both players and their families with games being played through until mid-September. Well done boys and enjoy the experience making the most of the opportunity.
