School Parking Options
Thank you to everyone patiently waiting for feedback on parking whilst we await our driveway resurfacing. Seeking clarity was made even more urgent by the news we have moved back into Alert Level 2 and can no longer have non-essential visitors to the school.
Alert Level 1 - parents are welcome on the school site but must park vehicles at the top of the driveway
Alert Level 2 - parents must drop off and collect their child(ren) at the top of the driveway
Many of you saw our local Police visit this week to help problem solve. The Police advice is for students leaving school on foot to walk as normal to the top of the driveway, then have younger students turn left towards the Police Station and older students safely cross the road or driveway, then commence towards the 4Square. The identified safe parking areas for parents are:
- after the clearway signs on Stuart Street between the school driveway and Bell Street. Parking should be on the school side of the road.
- before the clearway sign as you approach the school on Ovenden Street, on the 4Square side of the road.
- please leave driveway access clear for residents.
Have a look at the map below for clarification - if there are any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.
The Police have offered to liaise with Clutha District Council in obtaining clearer signage for this space and to help us by monitoring the top of the drive on a more regular basis. A member of staff has been rostered to supervise at the top of the school driveway every day.
Please talk to your child about where they will be collected.
The risk factor for our school entrance will always be the mix of pedestrians, young children, cars (staff, parents and students) and buses. In the long term, a plan will be developed by school transport safety advisors to mitigate this risk - our first step will be safe resurfacing of the driveway.
Thanks for everyone for your understanding. The scenario we are faced with as we wait for the works to be completed is frustrating for everyone involved.
