Skip's baseball session a hit with everyone!
Skip was back again for his final time this year to sharpen everyone's baseball skills.
On one of the hottest days we have had to date, our local Sports Activator, Paul Skipper (better known as Skip), arrived with his usual energy to get our junior school moving. Students from Years 1–8 each enjoyed a half-hour session focused on the fundamentals of baseball.
Skip started the sessions by pairing students up to practise their throwing and catching skills. One student in each pair wore a catching glove while their partner threw the ball underarm. It proved to be a fun challenge trying to keep the ball securely in the glove. From there, students moved on to rolling the ball to each other and practising “scooping” it up cleanly, a skill needed for fielding. The real excitement kicked in when the group split into two teams for a mash-up game combining elements of baseball, softball, and teeball. Everyone had the chance to bat once before swapping over, keeping the game fast-paced.
Carter said his favourite part was “hitting the ball and having fun,” while Emma especially enjoyed fielding because “running and throwing was fun, especially trying to get someone out!”
We’re stoked having Skip bring such an enjoyable, action-packed session to our school. He’ll return next year with even more engaging ideas and sports for our students to try and we can’t wait!
