The Rec Centre was buzzing on Monday as schools came together for the final showdown of the 2025 Top Team competition. TCAS sent in a determined crew of Year 7 & 8s, ready to give it everything they had for the last round of the year.

First up was the famous quiz upstairs a mix of sport and general knowledge that kept everyone guessing. Not only were teams quizzed on who the Silver Ferns were playing and who the Black Caps had faced recently, but a few red herrings were thrown in too, like naming a famous person (spoiler: it was the Prime Minister) and the Māori name for Dunedin. MacKenzie especially enjoyed the passing in Turbo Touch, while Mika thought the quiz was the best part. Maggie said all the games were really fun, and the quiz was good too.

Next, it was downstairs for Turbo Touch, a fast-paced twist on the traditional game. With only five players and the freedom to pass the ball any direction, forwards, backwards, sideways, you name it, every move counted. Teams had to make two possessions before the end zone opened for scoring, which made for an energetic, all-in style of play where teamwork was the winning formula.

The afternoon wrapped up with a ball style relay challenge. Balls were lined up across the court, and one by one players had to sprint, grab, and race them back to base. It was high energy chaos at its finest, and by the end there were definitely a few tired legs and smiles all around.

After an awesome afternoon of fun, the yearly competition has come to an end and thr overall results for 2025 are in:

1st – Rosebank, 2nd – Tuapeka Top Team, 3rd – Romahapa Roosters, 4th – TCAS, 5th – Balclutha, 6th – Toko Titans, 7th – Clutha Valley and  8th – Kai Minors
