Welcome to our new Student Board Rep!

Welcome to our new Student Board Rep!

Each year, TCAS students have the opportunity to vote for a student representative to sit on the school board. This role is hugely important, the Student Rep has the same voice, vote, and responsibilities as every other board member. They bring the student perspective to the table, helping shape how our school is governed and ensuring that student voices are heard.

This September, senior students listened to speeches from the candidates before casting their votes. We’re proud to announce that Laine Tyrell has been elected as the new TCAS Student Board Representative.

Laine brings strong leadership experience as a prefect, house leader, and active Kapa Haka member. She is hoping to represent the student body with maturity, fairness, and passion. Congratulations, Laine!

Laine's speech:

Talofa everyone, I’m Laine but you already know that!

I’m running to be your Student Board Representative because I genuinely care about you, your voice, your ideas, and your experiences at TCAS.

I’ve been at TCAS since way back in primary, so I’ve seen all the changes over the years at our school. With three sisters and three brothers, trust me I know all about disagreements, negotiations, and listening to different opinions (whether I wanted to or not!). That’s taught me how to listen, understand different perspectives, and relate to people of all ages.

Being a good Student Rep isn’t just about having a title it’s about being someone you can trust, look up to, and actually talk to. I already lead as a prefect, house leader, and in Kapa Haka, so speaking up and standing up for people is nothing new to me.

I can’t promise you crazy things like a two-hour lunch break, but what I can promise you is to make sure your voice is heard at the board table. I’ll represent your ideas about learning, culture, opportunities, and the stuff that really matters to us as students.

If you want someone approachable, calm, mature, responsible, and not afraid to speak up for you, that’s me. Vote Laine for Student Rep, because I care about what matters to you and to our school.

Laine Tyrell
