Top Team Bring Their A-Game!

Top Team Bring Their A-Game!

Year 7 & 8 students hit the Rec Centre ready to strategise and snatch a few flags along the way! From fast-paced games to tricky quiz questions, it was a great way to spend the afternoon.

The Rec Centre turned into a battlefield on Thursday as schools clashed in the Top Team competition for Round Three. TCAS sent in a strong crew of Year 7 & 8 students, arriving with energy, enthusiasm, and just enough general knowledge to keep things interesting.

The day kicked off with the wild-card sport of Flag Football. None of our students had played before, so there was a fair bit of “Wait ... We do what with the ball?” as they and the adults figured out the rules. Imagine American football without the bruises, where instead of tackling, you yank flags off each other’s belts. The team was trying to master the art of snapping the ball (when the ball is passed between the legs to start a play). The player who performs this action is the centre, and the ball goes between the centre's legs to the quarterback, punter, who had to quickly decide the gamble of running the ball or long passing it. After about 3 rounds it was game on! Once the rules clicked, it was all go for a fast-paced, high-energy game that tested agility, quick thinking, and plenty of teamwork and eventually some touchdowns!

After the sweat and sprinting came the ultimate brain buster, a 20-question quiz. Covering everything from music to sports trivia, it was the perfect chance to prove that our students had just as much brainpower as they did footwork. Turns out, Top Team isn’t just about muscles it’s about memory too!

What an effort from TCAS! Our team snagged 3rd equal in the quiz, powered through to 4th in Flag Football, which means they have secured a strong 3rd equal overall, with one more term still to play for.

A massive thank you goes out to Sport Clutha and Rebecca Craig for organising such an awesome afternoon, and to Mrs McDougall and Robyn for their expert team management. Our team had an absolute blast and can’t wait to take on the final round in Week 6 of Term 4. One thing’s for sure the other schools better bring their A-game, because TCAS is coming in hot for the grand final!
