Year 7/8 Hockey Festival; A day of fun, frost, and fantastic play!

The day may have started off chilly at the hockey festival, but the energy on the field quickly warmed things up.

Last Tuesday, our Year 7 and 8 students bundled up for a crisp morning as they set off to Balclutha for the annual Year 7/8 Hockey Festival. Despite the chilly start, spirits were high as students prepared for a full day of fun and competition.

The festival is all about promoting hockey among tamariki by encouraging participation, developing skills, building teamwork, and showcasing great sportsmanship—all within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Our students were split into three teams, with each team playing an impressive seven games throughout the day. The festival wasn’t about winning or losing, but about having a go, learning together, and enjoying the sport. And that’s exactly what we did!

From enthusiastic passes to determined tackles and plenty of cheering from the sidelines, the day was packed with energy, laughter, and growing confidence on the field. It was fantastic to see everyone giving it their best and supporting one another.

A huge thank you to the organisers, parents, and supporters who made the day possible. We’re already looking forward to next year!
