TCAS Netballers take on Otago Schools

The Senior A netball team headed to Dunedin to showcase grit, growth and g
While most of the school was still snuggled under blankets recovering from the Formal, eight determined senior girls were up at 6:30am, bleary-eyed but ready to represent TCAS at the two day Otago Secondary Schools Netball Tournament. Their destination? The Edgar Centre in Dunedin, also known as the largest indoor icebox in the Southern Hemisphere. Thermals weren’t officially part of the uniform, but they probably should’ve been.
The team had a tough draw and a packed day ahead, with three nearly full-length games and just one sub. First up was Otago Girls’ High School, where the TCAS fell just short by a narrow 4-goal margin. The girls dug deep and gave it everything. The following two matches brought stiffer competition from Mt Aspiring and Queens. The girls gave their all, and although the scoreboards weren’t always kind, the learning curve was steep and the progress impressive.
After a well-earned sleep and a low-volume ride home, the team returned on Monday for two playoff games. The first ended in defeat, but the second? A win to finish the tournament. Smiles were back and what a great way to wrap things up.
A huge shout-out to our netball warriors: Amelia Morrison, Laine Tyrell, Lana Mageria, Harper Melville, Astrid Morrison, Milly Lietze, Lucy Baker, Vanessa Turner and Elyssa Stapleforth-Hill. You represented TCAS with heart and hustle. Throughout the two days, they grew immensely. The intensity of the tournament sharpened their footwork and passing skills, and strategic play all stepping up.
Massive thanks to Jess Ingham, whose passionate coaching, clear direction, and relentless positivity kept the team motivated and focused. Jess, your knowledge and energy lifted the whole team, thank you for giving up two days!
Also, a big thank you to Manager Robyn Lietze for driving, managing logistics, and being the ever-reliable sideline support. Thanks also to Kerri Nakajima, who bravely took on the role of scorekeeper on Sunday, we appreciate your eagle eyes and fast fingers! Thanks also goes to Natalie Grant, who travelled with the team and umpired multiple matches on behalf of TCAS. We were lucky to have her expertise and knowledge.
And just like that, there’s no rest. The team is back on court tonight at 7pm for their regular Friday night game. Good luck girls!
