Terrific Top Team turns up the competition!

The Year 7 & 8s competed in the termly Top Team in Balclutha this week learning some new skills and games.

The Top Team competition took place on Wednesday at the Rec Centre, bringing together teams from surrounding schools to test their sporting abilities, strength, teamwork, and general knowledge. TCAS was able to field a large and enthusiastic group of Year 7 & 8 students ready to take on the challenge for this term.

The challenge kicked off with a series of Pickleball games. For many of our students, this was a brand new sport, which was a fun mix of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Played on a badminton doubles court using paddles and a wiffle ball (a lightweight, hollow plastic ball with holes), it presented some challenges but also some great laughs. Teams quickly picked up on key rules, like avoiding the area known as the kitchen, and developed their skills across three matches.

Next up was Smash Ball, a fast-paced, high-energy game that merged elements of cricket, tennis, and baseball. Players aimed to hit three bowled tennis balls with a racquet, then ran to a cone and back as many times as possible before the fielding team returned all the balls. With plenty of strategy, TCAS was able to win all of their three games.

The event wrapped up with a 20-question quiz covering topics such as flags, music, and local knowledge. (Thanks to our secret weapon Casey, whose flag expertise gave us a real edge.)

A huge thank you to Sport Clutha for organising such a fantastic day, and to Mrs McDougall for her expert team management. We are already looking forward to the next Top Team competition in Week 7 of Term 3!
