Senior camp in Wellington!

Senior camp in Wellington!

Years 11-13 headed off to Wellington last week for a camp filled with adventure.

After departing on Monday 17th March, I knew that our camp was going to be amazing. To start with, we had both chocolate pretzels and fudge for our inflight snacks; a good omen for what was to come. Our flight was very smooth, allowing for a peaceful nap that lasted for the majority of the journey. When we arrived, we began our scavenger hunt around Wellington. This was not only confusing but also hunger inducing, as our group shortly found ourselves at McDonalds.

Throughout the week, we went to many different and amazing places, my favourite of which was probably the Wellington Zoo. I particularly enjoy watching the young chimpanzees commit mischievous acts to the zoo staff and to the older chimps. My favourite chimp was called Akita (who reminded me of my sister). I also really enjoyed the Te Papa Museum. This was because of the ocean exhibit, which featured a colossal preserved squid and also the Gallipoli exhibit which contained life-like statues that were almost 3 times the size of me!

Overall I was very glad to have this experience and would definitely go again!

Starting from Monday up until the last day of camp last March 21, students of The Catlins Area School have been on their best behaviour, many have shown the TCAS Way on various occasions. The excitement was through the roof and despite the tiring journey, everyone still gave the activities a go. Every activity was more fun than the last one from the scavenger hunt on the first day, seeing the long-necked giraffe at the zoo, the rainy Wednesday at the museum with the giant squid, going back in time whilst reading the stories of some brave soldiers who fought in the war, to a Royal Thursday at the Government house and the beehive. It was a sad yet exciting Friday when all of us had to return to our lovely school. The camp was more thrilling than I thought it would be. To the Adults that supervised all of our students, thank you very much again for letting all of us enjoy our time in Wellington.
