The ultimate outdoor adventure for Year 9 and 10!
We had 8 students head through to Dunedin to take part in the Get to Go Challenge held around Dunedin last Friday. The Get to Go Challenge involves teams competing against other Otago Schools in 3 different time challenges throughout the day run by the Hillary Trust. Think of it as a fun outdoor education class with a little competition and a time pressure mixed in. The team consisted of Astrid, Liv, Milly, Harper, Nikora, Austin, Harry & Clark.
Their first challenge was mountain biking at Signal Hill, the aim is to get as many laps in as possible in the 50 minutes and they get extra points for hitting jumps. After a quick bite to eat we headed over to MacAndrew Bay to jump on paddle boards and crack some codes whilst still getting as many laps in as possible. Orienteering was the last challenge which took place at Forrester Park. There was a mini challenge to complete in pairs and then the teams decided to break into groups of six and two to complete the final and larger stage.
It's so great to get the kids out trying things they may not have tried before and placing 9th out of 18 teams overall. Also, to brag, we were the first mixed non-competitive team over the line (and also beat several competitive teams in the process)! Also a bonus is having a look around different areas of Dunedin and seeing what activities are on offer for free or minimal cost!
