Challenging the limits for Top Team!
Friday saw 11 of our students from Years 7 and 8 head back to the Cross Recreation Centre in Balclutha to compete in the Term 3 challenge of Top Team. The Top Team competition is open to all schools in the Clutha district and challenges students in their sporting abilities, strength, teamwork and general knowledge to see which school will reign Top Team supreme. Each event involves a different quiz and different sports or activities.
As usual the challenge begin with schools being broken into smaller groups and started with an interactive quiz. There were some great local questions, paralympic questions, music questions and even some Raygun impersonation dancing from the students!
It was time to learn the dual sports running for the afternoon. Paris Skipper the Sports Development Officer from ParaFed Otago introduced Wheelchair Basketball and we were also lucky enough to have helpers from the Big River Country Rugby who refereed the other game of Futsal.
TCAS were fortunate to have a bye first where we were able to watch the wheelchairs in action and decide on strategy. Passing long distance was definitely a strong point from our team and we were able to confidently move the ball quickly down the court. The first games were a little slower but with a bit of practice we were able to perform some impressive maneuvers in the chairs and gain in skill and confidence.
Futsal was fast paced and TCAS showed some strong defence and team skills in communication.
Top Team will be back for the final round in November and it will be interesting to see what will be the challenge!
