Preparing for duty and training like a police officer!

Several Year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to train like cadets as they completed mental and physical challenges as a team.

On Wednesday, August 30th, eight Year 7-8 students rocked the Annual Police Competency Simulation Test at Balclutha's Cross Recreation Centre. The PCT is an event run each year with teams of intermediate age students taking part in a variety of mental and physical challenges. This fitness test is what future police recruits tackle solo in under 3 minutes as part of their entry to the NZ Police College. The frontline police crew redo it every 2 years to stay sharp.

The students formed 4-person squads, all pumped to win the Liz Bartlett Trophy under the supervision of Mrs Bichan. Hollie Harrex, Milly Lietze, Rocco Povey and Blair Munro teamed up as The Bagels and Laniah Shute, Amber Senior, Cooper Landreth and Harrison Waaka worked together as Team Toast. Teamwork was the name of the game, helping them conquer challenges such as trailer-pushing, wall-climbing, zigzag sprints, crawling through low bars, and lugging a heavy 'body bag'. The event was super supervised by the police and a police college officer, making sure things were all in check. The kids had a blast and well done to the Bagels who placed 6th out of 23 teams and to Toast who placed 13th.
