Constructing a sustainable future with earth-friendly techniques.
Austin Morrison, Harper Melville, Elyssa Staple-Forth Hill, Natalie Grant and Keera Wells travelled to an experience in Dunedin that showcased a practical way of using natural resources to build.
Last week Year 7-10 students from Dunedin and Clutha schools got together to explore using natural materials for building. They looked at the life cycle of common building materials, where they come from, the energy needed to produce them and then what happens to them at the end of their lives. They then got hands on with mud, sand, straw and water to find out how to build with these natural materials. The students came up with designs of what they would like to build at their schools and then built models to see how their designs would work. It was a fantastic day!
