Clued Up Kids is a multi-agency programme teaching primary school-aged children confidence and life skills to help them stay safe in a range of real-life scenarios. On Wednesday morning, Mr B headed to the Rec Centre in Balclutha with ten Year six students.

The hands-on activities include a ‘shaky house’ for practising what to do in an earthquake, teaching children how to react during a house fire, as well as demonstrations on water safety, interacting with dogs, road safety, quad bikes, truck and cycle safety, firearms and first aid.

School groups went around different modules within the building and spent 10-15 minutes at each station.

Harry Lietze - I enjoyed the earthquake and bike safety the best. The earthquake had a trailer that simulated an earthquake. I enjoyed being shaken around and what I should do if it happened. The bike safety had a bike course set up with ramps that I really enjoyed doing. The information about fruit was also really interesting as they had made up a game about it. We had to write as many fruits as we could think of in our group of fruits that were colours of the rainbows. Thanks Mr B for taking us.

Graham Twaddle - I enjoyed the biking, the diet module and the earthquake. There were jumps that I could ride a bike around. There was a large floor cleaner in the middle that we had to avoid. Adults would hold up a card with a picture of a hazard and we had to describe the hazard like ‘blue car’ while riding the bike.
