Mesmerizing Magic Comes to School!
Ākonga were once again enchanted by the illusions and empowering message from Elgregoe the Magician.
The excitement of having one of New Zealand’s most popular and highly awarded magicians had been brewing all term. Finally, on Wednesday afternoon Elgregoe arrived for his annual visit to The Catlins Area School. Elgregoe has performed magic since he was 12 years old and this performance will almost be his last as he retires his birds and hat in 2025. Through this magical encounter, the students are sure to gain valuable insights and a renewed sense of compassion and understanding.
Elgregoe and his wife Sue showed a first-class professional performance, that was engaging, humorous, and entertaining. Armed with a pandemonium of exotic parrots, Elgregoe made the feathered friends disappear before our very eyes, and then reappear. Between every trick and sleight of hand was a focus on fostering core values of anti-bullying, being a hero through acts of helpfulness, empathy, resilience, and seizing opportunities, this magician's interactive show inspired and empowered the students.
Romahapa School and Tahakopa School joined in the laughter and illusions. Amazed faces filled the crowd from ākonga to teachers alike, especially when Sue disappeared into a box. We cannot wait to see what Elgregoe will come up with for his finale performance next year!
