Making moa from papier-mâché!
It's moa fever in the art room with Room 3 sculpting with newspaper and PVA.
As you know we are busy in the art room making Moa inspired artworks to display in the gallery space at the Owaka Museum and Library for the month of July. As part of the exhibition planning Rooms 2 to Year 9 have all been down to the Museum to see parts of the Lockerbie Collection, (including Moa and Haast Eagle bones), and had the chance to ask questions of Mike McPhee.
Moa, eggs, Haast Eagles and other extinct species are starting to appear in the art room. Here you will see some images of Room 3's sculptures. We started off stuffing paper bags with newspaper, and stuffing stockings to create the basic shape of the neck, (thank you Owaka Swap Shop). Once the papier-mâché layer has dried we will be able to start painting and diversifying our creations, watch this space!
