Reflecting on Symmetry

Reflecting on Symmetry

On Wednesdays as part of a Geometry unit with Mrs Parker, Room 3 have been learning about Symmetry.

Symmetry derives from Ancient Greek symmetria "agreement in dimensions, due proportion, arrangement "and in everyday language refers to a sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion and balance. In mathematics, "symmetry" has a more precise definition, and is usually used to refer to an object that is invariant under some transformations; including translation, reflection, rotation or scaling.

This week ākonga used mirrors to check the symmetry pictures. Some of the students found the tiniest differences with the mirrors that were undetectable with their eyes. Everyone had loads of fun reflecting on our learning!
