Friday saw the entire school from Years 1 to 10 descend on the Kākā Point beach front for a planned combined beach day. Fresh from a bush walk after leaving the campsite, the older students split into groups and got to work setting up various activities on the sand in anticipation for the junior school to arrive at 9.30am.

Everyone congregated at the Kākā Point Surf Lifesaving Club for a briefing in ominous weather before heading to the activities in class groups on the shore. Sand castle building, bull rush, ball tag, seaweed, volleyball and beach cricket were run by the older students who had spent some time at camp learning and playing theses games. Older students spent time swimming and knee-boarding to buoys, floating 200m out to sea with surf lifesavers. Groups spent a set amount of time at each station before moving on, however the weather had other plans.

Drizzle turned into a heavier rain which saw a mad beach dash to take cover in the surf lifesaving club for an early morning tea. After half an hour the weather cleared and the sun tried its best which meant activities resumed with the plan to finish land-based activities, have lunch and then swim in the afternoon. Once again heavier rain shortened the last activity which became an impromptu sardine game while lunch was eaten. A call was made to shorten the day, much to the disappointment of ākonga who were looking forward to swimming.

Back at school for the afternoon saw a range of indoor activities of movies, indoor volleyball and a good clear out of the sports shed.
