From Orchard Inspiration to Potted Creation!

Room 3 gets creative with pots and pieces this week as part of their Innovation concept.

This term, Room 3 has taken their topic of innovation from a local visit to real-life ideas for beautifying their community. In early August, students visited the Catlins Heritage Orchard, exploring ways to enhance the area and considering ideas like signage and paving. One thing that really caught their attention was the trees arranged in a mosaic pattern.

Inspired by this, the class began investigating mosaics and patterns, which sparked the idea to beautify the orchard area with garden pots decorated with mosaic tiles. Students carefully planned their designs in their books, using a grid overlay to guide their choice of coloured tiles.

After completing the design process, the much-anticipated PVA gluing process began this week. The students have made fantastic progress, creating designs ranging from flowers to scenic patterns. Next term, the pots will be grouted, bringing their creative mosaics even closer to completion.
